Never heard of Sherman Tank Armor Hybrid (Hybrid M4 tanks for the Yankees)?

I know that obviously the change in the way of more tanks M4 with the more angular modern looking design, it seemed to me a soldier Rolled homogeneous armor. I have also seen the round before M4 Tanks use a design foundry did not know what was produced was a hybrid design of the armor that I have never heard of.I know a lot of M3 and M4 and Medium Tank Self Propelled variants, but I've never heard of this kind of "Hybrid Armor Sherman" Please explain, Cheers John
